Pest

Sap-sucking pests

Aphids, mealybugs, scale, mites, whiteflies and thrips all feed on plant sap.

What you'll see

Why it happens

These insects and mites pierce leaves and stems and drink the sap. Most multiply fast and arrive on new plants.

How to fix it

  1. Look closely to tell which pest it is, then open its page in the library for the exact fix.
  2. Move the plant away from others, and rinse or wipe the pests off.
  3. Spray insecticidal soap or horticultural oil on all leaf surfaces, and repeat every week or so.
  4. Use any spray exactly as the label says, and keep kids and pets away until it dries.
